Maynard & Hogan Attorneys
Named as among the Top Attorneys in Silicon Valley. Year after year, San Jose Magazine has repeatedly named Douglas Scott Maynard & the firm (formerly called Maynard Law Offices) as among the Top Attorneys in Silicon Valley. Mr. Maynard and the firm have consistently received this honor in separate polls and queries both of opposing attorneys and of clients. These polls and queries were independently conducted by the magazine.
Attorney-client teamwork
The firm believes that high quality legal representation requires clients to work equally hard with us, as a team. There is no question that attorney-client teamwork can mean the difference between winning and losing a case. And because obtaining a fair result often requires risk and sheer nerve, we also ask our clients to stand with us taking a strong negotiating stance whenever appropriate.

Descended from settlers arriving in the Santa Clara Valley in 1853, Douglas Scott Maynard is a seventh generation Santa Clara County resident. Due to a long family history in the County, there are many street names and place names honoring his family members, ancestors and cousins. Included among these are: Hamilton Avenue, Stevens Creek Boulevard and the City of Campbell.
Mr. Maynard was born in San Jose, California and grew up in the area originally known as "Hamilton" (which is between the Willow Glen area of San Jose and the City of Campbell). He attended Del Mar High School, a part of the Campbell Union High School District. He later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1974. After working in construction for two years to pay for his education, he went on to attend the Santa Clara University where he graduated with his law degree, a Juris Doctorate in 1979. After passing the Bar that same year, he obtained a graduate degree in taxation (LL.M. Taxation) from New York University in 1980.
Mr. Maynard originally founded the law firm in 1979 when he obtained his law degree. The firm moved to its current location in early 1981.
As part of the practice, Mr. Maynard has traveled extensively throughout the world handling local, regional and international legal issues. His work and personal interests have taken him to over 55 countries on 5 continents and he has extensive familiarity with and fascination of the cultures and peoples of many far away places.
Mr. Maynard is a self-made man having spent his early years as the second of seven children in an entrepreneurial family. His father, one of the pioneers of cable television, died in an airplane accident when Mr. Maynard was eleven years old. As the second oldest, in addition to assuming additional family responsibilities, Mr. Maynard put himself through college, law school and graduate school.
Starting the practice on his own without any outside sources of funding, Mr. Maynard built the firm through hard work and perseverance over a period of many years. Because he learned the practice of law through the school of hard knocks, Mr. Maynard is an experienced and tough negotiator, able to take on the most difficult of adversaries. It is his philosophies based on these life experiences and his guidance that have inspired the firm's vision and practice, guiding and changing the practice philosophies of all of the attorneys in the firm.
